Patrick Wood and Tim Whitehead, Will Jackson and friends, Zen Blower, Mark Paytress, Harvey Sahota, and legendary Monk Simon Klein performing his forthcoming album ‘Puppet’.
At this month’s Monk Club in celebration of my 50th birthday we shall the see the magnificent saxophonist, bandleader and jazz missionary Tim Whitehead praised as a ‘living legend’ by The Guardian’s music critic John Fordham. Tim shall be playing with my great friend and illustrious composer Patrick Wood whose music was recently used by the BBC for the Inauguration ceremony of Barack Obama. Look forward to sparks and chemistry.
Well known music journalist Mark Paytress (pixiephone) along with Harvey Sahota (tablas) shall be reforming their outfit, Pixiephone, an esoteric, sit-on-the-floor speciality from the early days of the Monk Club.
Fresh from 7 months hitch hiking across the globe from London through Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and all the way to Indonesia, we have Will Jackson, a soulful song writer and new talent to the Monk Club who together with Toby Kassanis shall be performing songs of alarming depth and power. They shall be joined by Mark Coleman on percussion.
Along the way, Zen Blower shall be enchanting us with the shakuhachi, her bewitching Japanese flute.
I shall be performing with band, friends, daughters and as many as will have me, proving to all and sundry that at 50 you don’t lose your rock ‘n roll.
